I get asked a lot from people that question from Log Home buyers. Should I do a half Log Home or full log home? That question can be answered many different ways. Some people say I want flat walls to hang a picture on. Other say I want that real log look and feel. But I would like o have some T/G walls and some drywall in some rooms. well you can do this in both full log and half log applications. We can do half log with a log exterior and log interior. the next room could have drywall on three walls and T/G on the other wall. When you do a half log and 2″x6″ framed walls you can get a great R value depending on type of insulation you so choose to go with. Foam verses fiberglass.
I really think it boils down to what you really want to have. Most full Log Homes have half Log above the first floor height. the prow walls are normally half log as well do to framing and sheer points and strength. The garage on a log Home is most generally half log as well. So i think it really depends on your liking and choices that you want or need to satisfy your desires.
I would say I believe we build 85% half log and and 15% full log, The are the same to maintain and can hardly be told apart from each other. I have a half log home and everyone thinks its full log. There shocked when I tell them its not full log.
I don’t know if this helped you at all but please look at all your options and build what you want so that you are happy with it.
