I want to share some things as a Log Home Restoration Specialist that I hear all the time. I here these words hourly and daily. My Goal is to help you with your Log Home and Log Cabin Preservation. This is why I want to show you a few things that I deal with daily. I hope that it will help you see how silly we look at some things that could really save you big money over years of Log Home or Log Cabin ownership.
- I don’t have mold on my house.
- Do you know silly gutters will look on a house like this?
- I had it stained 5 or 6 years ago.
- My contractor didn’t tell me I needed to do this yet.
- I don’t have rotten logs.
- I don’t want to keep redoing my house every few years
- I was going to do the stain last year.
- I don’t know why my logs are rotten?
- I don’t want my house darker.
I could go on forever with this list on sayings I hear. But what I want to talk to you about is the fact is if you have a Log Home, Log Cabin or wood sided house they all have one thing in common. Yes they are all made out of untreated wood products. We have to keep water from wood to preserve it and I hear people say to me this. Gutter would look so silly on this Log House or Log Cabin. I don’t think they realize there really saying I would rather rotten logs that gutters on my house. Now what looks more silly rotten logs or gutters to protect them from water splashing on the logs? I would think gutters would be a better choice.
So now that we got to this point that means we have to say how do we prevent my Log Home Or Log Cabin from decaying in front of my eyes? Well this is were we need to look at the facts and realize this wood will only be as nice as you keep it. Your Kitchen stays as clean as you keep it. Your car stays only as nice as you keep it. I see people when I go look at log house washing there cars and boat and they sparkle. Bu there house looks like they forgot about it for years. Your house is very much like your other things that you own. It must be maintained properly. Let me ask this one? Did you get your cars oils changed lately or did you wait 5 or 6 years? Most likely not. Your house needs this same attention and it will shine like your car.
I strongly encourage you to take a look and say how can I save on my Log Home or Log Cabin Refinishing in the long run? Maintain, Maintain, and Again I say Maintain. You probably spent more on your home than anything else in your life. So we need to start by first getting back in shape or never letting it get out of shape. Her are a few things you can do on your own to help your Log Home or Log Cabin. You can take your basic garden hose and rinse the dirt and debris of it every couple of months for starters. you can keep green plants, tree’s, shrubs and etc. away from you Log Home or Log Cabin because these things shade and hold moisture in areas that in the long run will cause Rotten Logs. Another thing is when you build make sure that you keep your logs up of the ground at least 12″ or more. On your deck post if they are log make sure you have treated lumber below them to prevent rotting post. Get informed on how to care for your Log Home or Log Cabin. If your car breaks down you take it to a mechanic correct so talk to a Log Home Doctor to see what should or could be done.
The more you put in to preventing problems up front on your Log Home or Log Cabin will save you tens of thousands in the long run. I believe by maintaining your house yearly will preserve, save, save and save.
